Every now and then a song comes along that completely grips me and won’t let go. About a month ago, I went to see a friend of mine, Niall Connolly, play a show in Dublin. It was a double-headline show with another guy called Casey Black. At that point I wasn’t familiar with Casey’s music, but I had heard good things.
On the day of the gig, I found his “Lay you in the Loam” record on spotify and had a listen.
I remember the exact moment that I connected with Casey’s music. It was the line “I spent my whole life… thinking about my whole life”. It floored me. So simple. One of those “Why the hell didn’t I think of that” moments!

I became pretty obsessed with this tune and today I got a notion that I’d like to try singing it myself… I even made a quick lo-fi video on the iPhone that you can check out if you’re curious:
