In this series I take a look at some of my favourite Irish songwriters. Some you may know, others you may not. With any luck you’ll make some new musical friends along the way… Please enjoy… Mr. Rhob Cunningham.
Rhob Cunningham is a bit of a genius – to my mind, one of the finest writers of song that this country has ever produced. He has recently moved to Berlin and his new solo album is set for release in the very near future.
A new song, “Wait until the Sun grows cold”, recently appeared on Youtube, and has received a lot of love from the people of the internet. Filmed on a canoe on a German canal, under a bridge, the air filled with Birdsong and Sirens – This is a beautiful piece of work:

In the last day or so he has just released an eleven minute Bob Dylan-meets-Stephen King Fairytale Folk epic called “The Head Collector”. This one was produced by Conor O’Brien of the Villagers, who also played on the track. Listen out too for guest vocals from the uniquely-voiced Cathy Davey.

There is a magic and a romance to all of his work and if you don’t know it yet I invite you to dive in deep and drink it up. Here are a couple more of my favourites:
QUIET SONG – Filmed by Myles O’Reilly
SOMEONE WILL – Filmed by Sofar Sounds
NATURESWAY – Filmed by Myles O’Reilly
If all that isn’t enough, you can dive further into his musical history and find a project called “Our little Secrets”:
If you enjoy this music please, help it to reach more ears by sharing on Facebook / Twitter and beyond.
Thanks
