Peter Doran - Marguerite (A Myles O'Reilly Picture)

This solo/acoustic version was captured on film by Myles O'Reilly at Oldtown House, Westmeath, on July 25th 2024. THE SONG: "Marguerite" is a song based on the true and tragic story of Florence Marguerite McGrane. She passed away on December 10th 1899 from fatal burns suffered after her dress accidentally caught fire. She was just 4 years old. Florence-Marguerite's Grandmother, Margaret J. Fallon, is listed as "present at Birth" on her birth cert (1895), with a home address of Oldtown House. This is the very same house you see in this video. The very same house that I have come to call my home, where this song was written, and recorded, some 120+ years after the event. Margaret J Fallon was Florence's Grandmother and is the Great Great Great Grandmother of my own two daughters Francesca & Hayley who you can see in the video. And so we are bound together in time. "Marguerite" was Co-Written with Jimmy Broder, a long-standing mentor of mine. I shared with him the first drafts of the song and he was completely drawn in by her story, and like me, felt compelled to write about it. "I still remember, it was 4 o'clock in the morning, and there I was with this piece of paper in my hand, writing verses... completely in bits" - J. Broder Thank you to my Father-in-Law Willie Fallon, for sharing the story with me originally. THE VIDEO: I had the pleasure of working with the great Myles O'Reilly again for this film. Originally filmed for, and with the support of his Patreon Community. First released as "A Day Well Spent With The Dorans" on Patreon.
